Mid Week Mash - GCRC

Well, I ended up trimming the wing endplates (after this picture). my extensions werent enough. now I can clear the wall.

Tony sharing the flat grey scheme.

This is a new machine but I have a better picture coming. OTAR3R, hard to manage at 3.8xCS Straight is not really possible.

My drift package was getting good use ofthe RC-ART derive S tyres Almost all are running these or TopLine HDPE at GCRC now. the speed has equalised and we actually had some 6 car trains happening.

Project Asamoto FD

The FD Missile has been getting a lot of use recently, but sometimes when I sit it on the podium, it just looks "Right"
I've raised the wing about 3mm to clear the fences at GCRC. I may need to cut the end plates a little more but I'm looking forward to hanging the wing over the fence tomorrow night.

The mashed FC looks "Right" also. I guess these Top Line +6 rims that I never use don't look too bad. I'll keep them display only.

Anyway, I'm in the process of building an iconic machine from the early days of D1.

Think of these two combined with an orange flavour and I guess you might have an idea of whats to come.

State of play... in Japan

Well, in the last few months there has been a shift in the Japanese scene. Carpet to Concrete or Tile.

Since R31 house has opened its awesome street look concrete track and the success of the Nagoya events, a few tracks have closed or re-modelled away from carpet. Chance and Vertex among the names.

But there are still more than a few that are embracing the carpet feel. But in the search for more realism the scene has become slower and the use of tile is even on the cards.

I love my carpet tracks as they are clean, quiet and provide a pretty slow surface, but enough grip to be fast if you want. but I am also liking the new polished concrete surfaces as you can get the bodies even lower and slides are super long into corners.

So here is an overview of the Tokyo scene at the moment.

Yatabe Arena - Smooth Asphalt  & Carpet
Speed Way Pal - Asphalt - R2 Yokomo
Kazama Kasukabe - Ashphalt
Kazama Moriya
Waru Yokohama - Carpet & Asphalt
Full Cross - Concrete

Chance Carpet -> SHIFT -Tile
Vertex -> Renewal - Carpet Painted Concrete!
Circuit DR. -> Renewal - Carpet Painted Concrete!

Neo - Carpet - NEW!
Seed - Carpet Seed
Secret Base - Carpet
Tam Tam Chiba - Carpet
Donkihote Nerima - Carpet
Hobby Garage - Carpet
Oahu - Carpet
Noah - Carpet

S2K Project #1 - Open

Project Start. Open top motoring at it's best. Screaming 9000 RPM 2.0Litre and a touch of style. These are one of the most under-rated cars out there.

If you've never driven one, go ahead and do it. This is a HPI 190mm Honda S2000. although the front is about 200mm. It accepts +9 rims with ease.

It will have a full interior, cage and more. Now, shall it have influence from Spoon, J's Racing, Feel's, Amuse or Mugen? maybe all.

The main reason for this body is the Gold Coast Raceway track. It's tight, so this little machine will open up the lines a lot. With almost zero over hang at 45 degrees.

GCRC Sunday Session

 wos wong? wos wong?

this is what is wrong. I like a lot of brake in my DRb so my belts don't last a long time. Even this RC926 4mm item is not strong enough for my abuse. haha. This is regular maintenance.

I have a spare but rather than waste time changing it out.

I fired up the Drift Package. Boom! I love the shaft! But it's not really meant for tight tracks.

And I did a little testing....

Verdict... all these tyres are the same. HDPE Kazama Premium, HDPE RC926, HDPE RCArt Derive, HDPE Topline Moon.

Hard Street Jam (a little soft so they don't hold their shape with O-Ring installation and I've also had them split apart also.)

GCRC Video

Yo! yo! Check it out... bad driving from me. I still haven't changed the DRB from my carpet setup.

GCRC Mid Week Mash

Here is a nice shot from the our mid week mash at GCRC Raceway. I wonder if we can persude to management to get a tunnel under part of the rock crawler venue.

Rid's awesome 180 under slide.  We are slowly getting a few "lines" sorted on the track. It flows better in the anti-clockwise direction. Clockwise is a bit too slow as the corners seem to shorten with less opportunity to build speed.

Orido 86 sure is fat. and then some. Extra fenders added to cater for a liitle tuck on the rear styling.

Always good to get a little background slide action. Camera phones were the choice tonight.

this actually looks pretty realistic. parked up under the trees, it could be any drift paddock.

GCRC Raceway Familiarity

I had an awesome afternoon down at GCRC Raceway.

While I was waiting for a battery to charge, I took a few photos as Jade's R31 was blasting around.

I tried to capture a bit of speed in these shots.

We were joined by a C33 and got a bit of close up action.

You can see this body has been used. This chassis runs 3.0x and then some.

You can easily see the different rotation speeds in these images.

Very cool!

I was just playing with the camera.

All this dust is from a previous excursion to Rippit. This is something you don't get at GCRC.

All you get is beautiful reflections on the concrete. Make sure you install lights before you come. It really adds to the feel.

The bad parts about tetsujin curbs. Getting stuck. Personally I think 2mm would be high enough. Scratching you chassis is an issue, but you can sometimes pull off that Initial D style Takumi Turn if you get one wheel inside.

I love these shots that show speed.

If you get things in the right spot with a low shutter speed. It's all good.

I am getting to used to the concrete. I had previously run on carpet mainly, but the long handbrake entries and smoothness of slide is pretty cool.

and those reflections. yummy.

Of course I was using the FC. D1 vs Big power street cars was todays theme.

Someone told be the other night that my Wild willy's head was still moving, But I had disconnected the servo ages ago.

But at the moment, it moves from side to side. (it is still installed on the original bearing.) The weight transfer of the car is enough to get him looking the right way. limited of course so it doesn't swing to the rear.

very cool!

Only problem today... I didn't start early enough.

Palace of Dust

I brought the DRB down to the Palace of Dust today.

Had some fun with the FD with it's Pink AVS Model 6. then hooked up the Pan Speed FC for some coolness. FC or FD. both are RE-Xtreme!

I have this $5 mini DVD for some RAW footage. Stay tuned.

The FC is feeling the effects of impact these days. the front is FRP reinforced, but still, it maybe time for something else.

But I'll drift it until the end.

GCRC - Debut

A new place to drift. Gold Coast RC . GCRC.

The layout. It's always difficult to come up with a realistic and flowing track in a small space. I happened to be in attendance a few nights ago as the owners were getting feedback on a layout.

The atmosphere is good.

While as yet incomplete, the overall effect will come into it's own. At the moment, both the wing on my MARK X and the FD just clear the walls.

A place to rest.

But more importantly...

A place to go sideways.

Slide time.

Go and check it out. GCRC is at Arundel http://www.gcrcraceway.com.au/

They have a huge buggy track as well! It's AWESOME!
