RE-Xtreme .RSG. DRB-REW Typhoon Silver Version 1.2

It's been a long journey for the REW, my original prototype chassis still works great. but I wanted to include the small changes I have made along the way. So I'm moving the #000 chassis to another DRB currently in mid battery config.

 This chassis is the last of the Version 1.2 production run which now numbers #039.

A small change to battery tray allows adjustment forward position by 6mm.

Version 1.1 upper deck includes changes to the steering mounts for strength.This chassis uses original DRB Tower supports so the type C front brace is required.

A slot has been placed in the lower main deck for easy servo horn access when using the front servo location.

I've changed the cutout on the left side for more mounting options. Design remains through the rebate.

all original options remain. For those using normal length shocks a lower mounting position certainly is an advantage.

Rigidity braces are included as options, lower diffuser mount suits Yokomo drift package.

So with the transformation complete and the typhoon spec almost ready to run and the Prototype chassis swap underway.

It's now time to complete packing the #028~#038 for shipping by next week.

DRB-R 2 DRB-REW

The current test bed is due for an upgrade / side grade.

Starting with my current S14, underneath is a RWD DRB-R Rear Motor re-drilled Stock Chassis

It's pretty effective with ultra fast pivot around the central battery, in fact a bit too fast to be realistic.

For this machine, I'm converting it from DRB-R to DRB-REW spec using the original prototype chassis plates before sale. Any new owner will have a lot of options.

LOW CG is good for sideways yaw rotation and flat behaviour. In order to get the battery dead centre, the central bridge was modified.

The weight shift REW option changes the behavior of the chassis for a different feel. Both are effective.

Just need to re-install the servo for a test and tune. With the ESC mounted at the rear on the right side there's plenty of room to put your battery pretty much anywhere. With the Drift package wiper or an additional belcrank, you could even run a lateral or longdituninal battery.

Underneath is a DRB Prototype that I've been playing with. Mid Mount Rear Drive. Ready for testing.  Spec includes V2 Front end, MST Knuckles ( turned upside down for clearance at angle.) Team Suzuki rear suspension arms and a couple of overdose dress up parts, Ball diff... regular RWD stuff. To make this RWD, All Ive done is remove the front belt and one way, then add my own wiper extensions.  

While already re-drilled in REAR Motor Config, The parts are all pretty standard for a CS upgrade.
My friend has re-drilled a couple of stock chassis I have also for REAR Motor.

It will be a bit of a test on the carpet.

Also a bit of maintenance on my Silver DRB.

Weekends recently are not always RC-Car related. Anyone want some 1/4 Scale Aero?

DRB-REW V1.1 Boxing Stage

DRB-REW Boxing is taking place.

Big thanks to those who are waiting patiently. Checking 500 individual components and splitting them for boxing. I need an assistant. ;)

Total so far is 26 DRB-REW in the world plus the Prototype. With 7 heading to Japan I'm sure we will see some awesome builds in the next few months.

Version 1.1 includes 2 very minor changes o the upper deck and the steering wiper extensions. 

Just like this FULL OD DRB-REW in the USA.  Starting to see some great builds around the world.

RE-Xtreme RC Drift Bible - DRB DIB - Lower Wheel Speed

There's a lot going on here... Lets look at one thing. Lower Wheel Speed.

The DRB-REW Rear Wheel Drive Evolution Weight Shift machine is capable of handling a large rear spool.  Why?  To lower the rear wheel speed.

On low grip surfaces, the rear RPM easily can exceed grip. You have a few options.

Use a torquey motor like a 21.5T.
Reduce your forward Speed
Reduce your EPA (crude method)
Change your spur and pinion.
OR
Change your rear drive. 

Of all the things I thought about for the REW, a large rear spool was an option I wanted to implement. So the rear shock tower was designed to accommodate this.

 The key to this on a Yokomo belt drive system is 2 fold

The Yokomo drive kit for 1.3 Countersteer.

The kit includes a 27T pulley (which is fine for CS) but we are looking at RWD here.

We will replace this with anywhere Alloy Pulleys from Sakura from 41T to 45T

The pulleys seat well in side but the screws are very slightly offset.

A very slight file to the inner section of 3 is enough. 

Then it all bolts together. You should be able to run a lot more power through the drivetrain.

Belt size will need to be adjusted depending on the drive pulley and rear pulley options.

This is just one method so b careful of load on your motor and drawing too much power from your esc.
Always monitor temps for tuning. 


COUNTER-STEER

For countersteer you can use the opposite on the front. Mounting to a One-Way requires six small screws and bolts. Simply clamp the oneway to the pulley.

Clearance in the front of a DIB and DRB will require some grinding.  when you go more than 43T.
