DRB-REW Good Vs Evil

Choose a side...

Each chassis can have it's own personality. Which one is good? Which is Evil?

With the upcoming classic car show on the 15/5/2016, I've been working on a refresh for the Holden / Isuzu Gemini. But I've also been playing with the RB7. While this goes on up top, the chassis are also evolving.

I have chosen quite powerful terms for my "Tsunami" Blue and "Samurai" Red chassis. The destructive force against the competition.

Embracing the Japanese essence of power, I always find it difficult to run low RPM motors effectively. It's just not my style.

Having recently tested taller gearing and high torque settings. I'll err to higher RPM and more RPM range any time.

I've actually been testing a whole range of setup changes. Castor, Camber, Front and rear, dampers and springs in search for something extra from the RWD.

While some changes with a weight shifting chassis, finding that one that I love is difficult. Some extra camber on the Tsunami chassis with the rear link is working well. More conventional rear setup on the Samurai is only beginning it's setup charge.

Overdose Upper arms and V2 requires a bit of alloy carving for correct droop. Full lock against the shock may require a slight adjustment.

Turning the shocks upside down creates a couple of valuable millimeters. Long wipers can be too long. I've changed ackerman for elimination of toe in at full lock which causes a slow chassis that is effectively stopping itself.

I've also revised the wiper connection. Now pushing forward of the wiper pivot on a custom position.

So while I'm not yet complete these two are vastly different in configuration and as such, perform with different characteristics.

As these two of my three DRB-REWs near completion. What path shall the 3rd Typhoon take?

Aggressive and Twitchy vs Stable and Lazy ?

High Power vs High Torque?

A small tweak here and there surely does change everything.

180SX2X Projects Debut!

Finally had the opportunity to get these 180SX twins on track.

We didn't just sit around taking pictures either. I told you they were made for battle.

Firstly a big thank you to the sponsor of this twin build. Furecha-san arigatou!

The Red.

This chassis is a Yokomo DRB with V2 upgrade, full Overdose chassis plate and shock tower set. CS ratio is 4.65xFCD. 42T-9T-20T-20T

Sanwa and Savox Electrics and Speed Passion Reventon 105T combo with large size battery pack. RC926 Twin Springs handle spring and Kazama Auto rims / RC-ART tyres complete the chassis.

The White

This chassis is a Yokomo DRB with V2 upgrade, full Overdose chassis plate and Kazama motor mount. CS ratio is 5.00xFCD. 45T-9T-20T-20T
Sanwa Electrics and Acuvance(Keyence) Tachyon/Luxon KG 7.5T combo with shorty Venom battery pack. RC926 twin springs handle spring and Kazama Auto rims / Topline tyres complete the chassis.

Pipes came on board just at the right time and contributed to vinyl graphics and rear exhausts. Thanks!

The dump pipe on the white machine and the 45 degree tip on the red machine look awesome.

Check out rc-pipes.com for some cool stuff. The rear lights are true red LED.

The lights here are orange LED with red tint. I wanted to keep them slightly different.

Got Stance! The Gram Lights have a 1mm lip. I had to take my 1.5mm spacers out of the rear to allow tuck just after this photo. Camber is 1 degree on the rear and 11 degrees up front.

Origin Labo were actually one of the first to have light up mirrors with indicators. I tried to tie in some details like this.

Pandora RC body shells are a mixed bag for shapes really, but when I chose these RPS13 180SX for the twin project, it was because they have a realistic look.

Side by side. We were itchin' to get them sliding in GCRC's realistic environment..

The two month project from concept to finality was at an end.

So Lets GO!!!! Revs Up... Dump Clutch.

After our first session that was full of final setup adjustments and tweaks, I handed over the controls so I could photograph the twins. My driver did a pretty good job adjusting to my crazy setup.

Within a few laps the gaps were getting smaller.lover the 4.6 and 5:1 image on the rims.

Nothing like similar setups to get that sypatico! Even though you can bet the same results with less power/more torque. We love the responsive high rpm feel.

Nothing like big lock!Team Suzuki CVDs allow 55 degrees with ease.

I was playing around with the LED pattern selector. inside lights flashing.

front blue indicators off.

Light Up - Lights Down. Lights in sleep mode. all look good.

Both pushing out to the walls.

Twin Reverse entry. ooh Yeah!

On track they can look a little long from above. but I always like to sit on the floor at a realistic level and they look fantastic.

So after the red beast had to leave. I continued to "Add drift character" (smash up) the white 5.0. My new rims always seem to last about 30 minutes. The rears bearing the scars wheel clashes. I wear these with pride though, because that means someone else's front rims or bumper or door wears the gold scar.

Another HUGE thanks to GCRC Gold Coast RC Raceway. THE place for realistic RC drift!

180SX2X Project - Shelved!

The two machines are pretty close to completion.

Every day they stare at me.... Finish me...!  those demons are back.

But details take time. Most of which you never see. Custom dashes are in. I use the Yokomo wipers to push through the dash also. Easy mounting.

Or do you? The red car gets a 1/2 cage, rear shelf, pop up lights. Linkage works but needs review.
Ive since added the light pattern selector button and installed the dashes.

Metallic red behind the Kazama rims +7. Our alternate MST RID +11 rims are also red backed.See top image.

For now they are good enough to display on the shelf while they await body door lines and a little more re-inforcement for twisting.

After debut which should be next weekend.

My focus will return to the top shelf  Drift Package 3.4CS project. very close now.

alternate wheel set.

HOW AWESOME IS THIS?!!!!!

These rims work very well to add that finishing touch.

180SX2X Project - P!PES for ya ass.

The white machine receives it's own special addition.

Thanks to www.rc-pipes.com

A special dump pipe for a special release.

I mounted this one way out the back for maximum impact.

The main reason was to showcase the logo on the upper section of the pipe.

But it's a bit of an optical illusion. because the dump pipe doesn't really extend that far.  Ride height is also set at "display setting"

This shot probably highlights the reality better. it just peeks out.

If I find this one hitting the fence, I can easily tuck it back under by bending the P!PES metal mounting a little more.

So you will find that I'm trialling a lot of different rims on my machines at the moment.

Rays G35 are very deep and a little too modern. The white is designed for coloured rims as the impact point, so the high contrast image here
