GCRCD- TEsting

Join the train...

Today was an early morning start... Setup and drive.

Bringing a baron area to life will take a little while but the basics still make for a semi-realistic environment.

Gearchanges and handbrakes... a RWD chassis allows plenty of space for interior decoration.

DRB-REW - Double.

Tripple.

All the guys hammering on as they get used to the new surface.

With everyone putting in big efforts to get the venue up and running, it will soon be looking very very awesome.

A few tasks before the new layout is complete.

Floor covering, Grass, curbs, Wall Covering and more diorama additions.

DRB-R 2 DRB-REW

The current test bed is due for an upgrade / side grade.

Starting with my current S14, underneath is a RWD DRB-R Rear Motor re-drilled Stock Chassis

It's pretty effective with ultra fast pivot around the central battery, in fact a bit too fast to be realistic.

For this machine, I'm converting it from DRB-R to DRB-REW spec using the original prototype chassis plates before sale. Any new owner will have a lot of options.

LOW CG is good for sideways yaw rotation and flat behaviour. In order to get the battery dead centre, the central bridge was modified.

The weight shift REW option changes the behavior of the chassis for a different feel. Both are effective.

Just need to re-install the servo for a test and tune. With the ESC mounted at the rear on the right side there's plenty of room to put your battery pretty much anywhere. With the Drift package wiper or an additional belcrank, you could even run a lateral or longdituninal battery.

Ahh, the options.

GCRCD Preview

Welcome to GCRCD, Gold Coast RC Drift.

It certainly didn't take long for us to get in position for maximum attack!!!

Lap after Lap the gaps were closing.

Less than an inch from the wall and closer together.

More than a few getting in on the action.

Full Speed high angle slides were only part of the fun.

After the big slides, you still have to continue

And continue they did.

Picking up the training partners.

Good to see the boys back on track.

CS as usual takes a little more time to familiarize finding the right ratio to grip combo.

.
But the laps were soon coming.

with style

But for me it was fun.

I handed over the keys for a few laps.

the guys were trying new things.

And having some fun.

But ultimately, there was just a lot of fun tight battles.

Even though GCRCD is quite small, there is a definite challenge and fun reward.

We are still awaiting changes to the building so in a couple of weeks, a real transformation will take place.

GCRC + D = Gold Coast RC Drift

GCRC + D = Gold Coast RC Drift

Still very much temporary until we finalize the building, schedules and layouts , but we are well on the way.

Hunting walls and outside clips...

as well as deep in clips.

Hoping to create a genuine scale "Feel" to this track.

I think we are in the zone.

It wasn't only me getting in on the action.

Loaning out my chassis for all to try.

Even on the first day and a temporary layout, smiles galore.

Concrete colour is fairly dark grey and doesn't have that sand yellow colour.

After adding the tape guide outline, i couldn't help but start a bit of decoration.

Which immediately helped the imagery.

Realistic Error... game over.

There's still a lot of this at the moment. and my wing didn't fair so well. Can't resist the edges.

But the tandems are already back to being manageable.

Twin drift action.

With the small venue 11x5ish max usable surface area requires technical style.

About the only negative, is a bit of abrasion. Tyre marbles will build up nicely.

But  for the end result, I am more than happy to replicate reality.
