DRB-R 2 DRB-REW

The current test bed is due for an upgrade / side grade.

Starting with my current S14, underneath is a RWD DRB-R Rear Motor re-drilled Stock Chassis

It's pretty effective with ultra fast pivot around the central battery, in fact a bit too fast to be realistic.

For this machine, I'm converting it from DRB-R to DRB-REW spec using the original prototype chassis plates before sale. Any new owner will have a lot of options.

LOW CG is good for sideways yaw rotation and flat behaviour. In order to get the battery dead centre, the central bridge was modified.

The weight shift REW option changes the behavior of the chassis for a different feel. Both are effective.

Just need to re-install the servo for a test and tune. With the ESC mounted at the rear on the right side there's plenty of room to put your battery pretty much anywhere. With the Drift package wiper or an additional belcrank, you could even run a lateral or longdituninal battery.

Ahh, the options.

DP-R - Wheely Heavy

I'm going to test these alloy rims on my DP-Rear Wheel Drive.

Normal rim and tyre combo is 28grams.

These add an extra 15g to the package for "hopefully" more bite (especially on the rear).

I've gone back to an RC926 hybrid combo on the machine and adjusted the steering extension a for more refined steering curve.

It's all good to go.

I'm not really liking the look of these rims on the FD.Even if they are 7 spoke. I may need to use the Missile FD.

So if they work, I'll get some others and move them to the DIB 275 and the Mark X where they look amazing.

RE-DP Tsunami Spec "R" - Test

Today I changed a few things and swapped in some electrics for a test.

Here is a little Comparo... left 4wd. right 2wd.

My SSG is pretty damn good.

I needed to swap the bumper plate because it touches the wheels.

The steering really is a major difference.

So for now the SSG is empty. :(

And the RWD gets some temporary stuff. I won't use this setup as a final but it's good for testing.

Expect this chassis to change a LOT over time.

turning on the machine for the first time. Steering is insanely fast!!!! woo hoo! I'll need to move some ball joints to slow it down just a tad as I am only using 45% EPA.

Time for a coffee. ahhh.

I rolled out my carpet for a bit of a test. WOW... cool and difficult.

I spent a little time playing around, I forgot these were my display tyres. too grippy.
I swapped them over to more slippery items and lowered the offset to M-type wheels @ +10 and I got a bit more control.

I started playing with weight on the front and back, but I'll need to concentrate on suspension tune.
I swapped a few sets of springs and it got a bit better.

I can hold nice donuts, bigger circles, figure 8s but high speed is an unknown on my small carpet.
RWD needs a totally different style of driving. I'll go out on the street tomorrow.

With my current setting, I found that more throttle is a must. A bit like true rear wheel drive. Bury the boot for oversteer.

I'm not using a gyro yet in this test and it's tough. once of the biggest things is getting into a slide.
The wheels can steer past the amount to turn in easily, so you end up with understeer as the wheels go past the normal range.

interesting... I took a video so stay tuned.

My 7.5T got a workout.

RE-DP Tsunami Spec "R" - Project Start

What is the Spec "R"? Maybe DPR?

That's rear wheel drive only, so there's a lot to convert.

First... throw away the shaft!

At the moment I have this cheap drift package as a stating point.

It has FCD1.5x gearset and one way, that will become spares for my other Drift Package. The 10 deg Yokomo castor blocks and DPM knuckles will also become spare.

Type C front suspension will be installed with my Kazama knuckles
I'll be using Wrap up next lower Y arms,
TN Racing lower arm extensions,
and
TN racing Upper arm pin holders

Team suzuki type 2 steering arms are about all that will remain from here.

The Type B rear will remain although an Active Link rear suspension is underway,
The stock fixed spur gear is ready to be replaced.

SS shocks and decent turnbuckles. Leftover SSG parts have been swapped as the rear suspension tower.

Electrics might be a while longer.

Motor, Keyence Luxon 13.5T
ESC, Keyence Airia + Turbo
Servo, Sanwa SRG-BL series
etc

don't expect this to be finished quickly. It's definitely going to be a work in progress for a long time.
