RE-DP Typhoon Spec R - Weights and Mounts

A few detail updates to the chassis, starting with offset.

I had just a little too much tuck on the wheels.

the addition of 1mm spacer +10 offset resulted in a pretty good look. Total width is around the 205mm mark.

this is just a fraction of available lock.

Rear end has another 20g on the hub.

I'm pretty happy with how my weights came out.

Simple mount on the top.

I also made a body mount today. I guess this is Version 1. I already have version 2 planned with a raised centre.

playing with the dremel is fun sometimes.

 Very simple. but effective.

These are some of the leftovers from my Drift Package 4wd. Complete?

Apart from chassis plate and some bearings... pretty close.

RE-DP SSG Tsunami Spec 2.0 Upgrades

Small upgrades for more impact.

It may not look like much has changed. but there is now some more "Tsunami" blue on this machine.

I've been swapping components around recently to get better balance among my chassis.

The Imadoki towers I use on this chassis with the Team Suzuki lower arms are really designed for the shorter stoke Drift Package items.  I had a new set lying around so I decided the blue was needed to replace the silver items I had previously installed.

The Kazama height adjustable shock tops are set to the perfect length for this. Unfortunately the lower spring set is plastic, but eventually I can replace this if needed.

But the overall goal of a greater adjustability and more blue alloy have combined well.

RE-DP Typhoon Spec R - Shock Prep

No sooner had I checkpointed everything. I wanted to change some things.

The result is a lot smoother and more Yokomo.

I was running long stroke HPI shocks, but I decided to re-arrange my shocks on this and another chassis. I replaced the HPI with these Yokomo DRB items.

Due to the low mounting position on the Wrap up next arms, I moved the position to the inner most hole on the tower.  i get less binding, more adjust-ability and smoother arc to the suspension. 600 oil and I'm using a harder spring, but I'll probably go back to the RC926 versions.

I also trimmed the Kazama knuckles so they now sweep all the way through without fouling.

Yesterday I de-anodized and polished the lower arms. I had to extend the lower shock point also. TN Type C extensions wer used for this.

Team Suzuki Steering arms + Team Suzuki damper mounts used as extensions connect to the shortened kazama knuckles.

here is the lower view of the chassis.

Out the back its all Active Hobby Silver components that dominate.

The Link suspension is a complicated, well designed mechanical traction upgrade that seems to be working nicely.

Clearances are tight. adjusting droop with this installed is a bit of a nightmare. I've trimmed some of the fins off the motor mount to allow for the larger spur. and the polished stock item looks OK, but getting a good gear mesh with the spring is trial and error.

20T pinion 84T Spur allows for good throttle control

Luxon KG with Active End Bell is bling Bling.

New Accuvance motors are coming soon. They have a similar look to this with a little more machining around the Join in the 2 piece can.

Here are my rear shocks. 200 oil rear 600 oil front with slow rebound pistons. Even with the 250g weights on the rear diffuser, I can still run Ultrasoft/Soft hybrid with the lower mounting point.

I still have those Overdose touches. Rear Overdose 44/2 shaft and CVD add a bit of strength. DRB rear knuckle with spacers add more bling and weight.

RE-DP Typhoon Spec R - Test 3 Prep.

Updates for today.

Yesterday I moved the blue electronics back to my SSG Drift Package so today was a strip down, de-anodise and re equip with the Street Jam branded black Keyence items from the DRB. I also get the Silver Overdose servo arm.

he front end's lower Wrap Up Next Arms, received a de-anodise and polish. WOW. they are so shiny! they came up better than my other components.

Next jobs

1. Trim the Kazama knuckles right down. I discovered the extra adjustment length on the arms is hitting on compression. I think I can safely lose the 3 holes.

2. front mono shock... or use my shorter drift package shocks. Hmmm. Custom arms need to be made.

2103 mid year checkpoint.

I currently have my chassis all set up and handling well. So I thought it's time to document everything.

I'm using this S14 on my Drift Package. It's good for both carpet and asphalt and I'd say it's my favourite right now.

The meaty S14 has evolved again and again. It's current time attack / drift spec is pretty cool. I'm running +6 28mm Top Lines N-Model2 with a +3mm spacer for the street and Black +12 N Model on carpet.

Underneath it looks like this. I moved the ESC back into its good home. New additions are the Team Suzuki CVDs, Imadoki SSG towers and the Street Jam bumper.

It sits pretty high for asphalt, but that's mainly due to the tyre profile.

The chassis plate has a few scratches underneath as it was "used" when purchased, however 99% of components have been replaced except the main chassis and upper deck.

Next up is my RX-7 Spirit R.

It's new, but will be destroyed as I come to grips with RWD only.

Underneath, this Drift Package is completely different to the SSG. It started as a Type B, but has taken on a mix of Type C, Traxxas, Kazama and Wrap Up Next components in the front to achieve massive angle.

The SSG towers add a little bling to this machine as well as de-anodising and polishing the Alloy components. The Stock motor mount, Team Suzuki steering arms, HPI shocks, Wrap Up next suspension arms are the main items.

Active Hobby Link rear suspension will soon be matched by a front mono shock.
Custom items include ackerman bar, lead weights, Front gear case and some small touches.

As a temporary measure, this Street Jam Keyence Running Set is installed from my DRB (it will be the same in the photos below.)

My next machine is this Powervehicles inspired JZX. with extended wheel base.

The Kunnyz Chaser is a nice design, But we all want the Mark II.

Underneath lies a Yokomo DIB SSG 275mm chassis. Most Alloy upgrades are Yokomo except the rear Kazama Hubs and a few Overdose components.

The front gets  a team Bomber SSG bumper plate.

Speed Passion Dokyo Motor features with tachyon ESC and this one has a Futaba servo. CS is 2.3 for fun oversteer.

This body is the JDm Missile FD. A pandora body. It hasn't had much use due to my other 3 chassis which debuted in 2013.

This FD is a bit wide but still has a nice shape.

Underneath is my DRB. I have used this a lot with solid maintenance. It still produces the goods.

I've changed a lot of stock components for top shelf items. It is primarily a carpet competition chassis but hasn't had much use in Australia.

de-anodised and polished. It still looks awesome. Sanwa MT4 telemetry is installed for temperature monitoring and RPM readouts.

Currently this chassis is donating electrics to my Rear Drive Drift Package.

I think that's all

Plans for the later half of 2013 are very limited due to funding.

Money permitting, a possible RC926 Carbon chassis is also slated for the rear drive conversion with OD parts to complete.
Sanwa M12, Super Vortex turbo ESC and 10.5T motor are on the wish list to complete the full set.

but those are dreams.
