GCRC Friday Fresh #2

Countersteer kings.

I'd hate to count the number of laps these guys have done together. A couple of hundred thousand perhaps?

Jade in front, Nick in the rear. Very rarely swapping.

Their high countersteer ARD / Street Jam & R31 based chassis setups are hard to better.

Wheels, Weights and Wheel Weights.

These are currently some of my favourite wheels. En Route WedsSport SA-55M

Available in only black or white, 6mm or 9mm they need a bit of TLC.

First I usually machine the support rings off on the lathe. While you can use O-rings with the support rings in place, I find it easier to mount tyres with the flat surface.

If I use paint. I always apply numerous coats of hard enamel.

The result with tyre is 28g.

The other day I tested the heavier alloy rims which  I found to be quite good. So I decided to use this flexible weak magnetic material with adhesive backing as a weight.

The result is a 7 gram gain. not too much, After I check clearance I may add another layer for a 14g gain.

By the way. If you want to add weights to your body or chassis. Instead of buying Kazama, Wrap Up Next or other brands, Just go yo your local tyre dealer and get some of these adhesive lead weights for Apply Wheel application. Usually they will give them to you free of charge.

If you spend a bit more you can get the carbon print versions etc.

They are all separate, in 5g and 10g sections. Just cut the backing tape where desired and apply.

Have fun with weight tuning.

RE-DP Typhoon Spec R - Arm Brakes

Today was a chance to get in the shed and make some stuff.

The Yokomo upper arms I had from the type C kit were really un-needed.

I decided I could make some replacements. I mean I didn't use any other parts from the Type C kit.

Just these upper turnbuckles which I will replace anyway.

I'm still getting massive angle. this is more than you need, even for RWD.

I also decided to run these cheap eagle brakes. I'm just using the rotor as the caliper mounts have different bearing size.

Rears also get the treatment.

While missing the calipers, they still make things look better. (made some RAAF stickers for my fathers RC plane today also)

Details are complete.

I think the FD3s is done. I don't think I will bother completing the rear wing mount. It's pretty strong as is and as I am not running at MAX ONE, there are no overpasses to hit.

The car is sitting here on a piece of board. I'm going to be making a "Victory lane style podium"

Just a place for some photography.

RE-DP Typhoon Spec R - Test 3 Prep.

Updates for today.

Yesterday I moved the blue electronics back to my SSG Drift Package so today was a strip down, de-anodise and re equip with the Street Jam branded black Keyence items from the DRB. I also get the Silver Overdose servo arm.

he front end's lower Wrap Up Next Arms, received a de-anodise and polish. WOW. they are so shiny! they came up better than my other components.

Next jobs

1. Trim the Kazama knuckles right down. I discovered the extra adjustment length on the arms is hitting on compression. I think I can safely lose the 3 holes.

2. front mono shock... or use my shorter drift package shocks. Hmmm. Custom arms need to be made.

RE-Xtreme FD3s Spirit R

95% complete, but good enough for a photoshoot.

All the rotary labels in effect on this machine.

RE-Amemiya, Fujita Engineering Feed, R-Magic, Knight Sports, Sexy Style, Pan-Speed, C-West, Satoru, Veilside, Bomex, and some extra sponsors for good measure.

Yokomo and Tamiya feature with Kazama, Sanwa, Keyence, RC926, Top line, Spice and other brands I support.

A few of my own brands of course RE-Xtreme, RE-AU, .RSG. and a few shared stickers along the way.

it's all very busy but that keeps life interesting.

I have 3 tasks that remain.

LED install,
Brake ducts to replace the fake fog light sticker.
Rear Wing (rear support)

and I'll be happy.

I can't wait to get this thing into some tandem sliding.

Interior, there's a custom dash and rear parcel shelf with tower bar and a full 6 point cage.
My driver is based on a Tamiya Wheelie body and 4wd driver's head with custom sunglasses.

he likes to look out the side, but the head position is fixed. Rear wing is a Yokomo "Cusco" item with Custom Kunnyz style end plates. I need to make a small wedge to mount the lower section more securely and increase angle slightly.

HPI details like exhaust, intercooler and mirrors add to the realism, while the street jam diffuser is a great complement to FD3s styling. Very similar to RE-Amemiya or Craft Company's rear diffuser.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the result.

RE-Xtreme Rotaries!

The FC is back to stay.

Recently, I've been returning to the rotaries.

This body I made in early 2012 is still looking damn cool. Inspired by drift legend Asamoto-san and the Pan Speed team, it received the time attack livery with masked and painted colour and also custom decals.

With some new paint on the Speed Way Pal rims. I installed the body on my Drift Package with some old body posts. (the posts will change to velcro soon)

I put a lot of work into this one, and I think I will hold onto it for a while longer.

With the FD also completed, I'm looking forward to using these a bit more.

unfortunately I can't drive both at once.

But I can vary my chassis these days depending on who is running.

FD is the DRB Typhoon 1.5 has now been increased to 1.8 again, FC is Drift Package 2.0

 Which would you drive?

In some ways the FD should be wearing the Pan Speed livery and the FC wearing the missile theme.

But that may be a future plan. who knows how long these bodies will last. I don't crash too often these days so bodies tend to last a lot longer than they used to.

RE-Xtreme FD3s - Return

FD3s... RE-turn.

I started RC drifting at a time when my real cars were RX-7s and there will always be a soft spot for the FD.  So I thought I'd ditch the 86s for a while and get back to what I really enjoy.

I mounted the FD3s back on the DRB and I had this Max Orido 86 wing to add that proportion on the rear.

The Pandora body has it's shape issues. the sides are too deep and the body itself is too wide,

I wonder when that BN Sports FD will be released.

Yokomo Mark X 275 - Update #7.5 Wheels

Choosing wheels is always tough. they can make an RC car look cool or ridiculous.

Today I finished repainting some old rims, and the results were surprising.

Now the clear coat is on the toplines, they POP! 2 red two blue remember.

The second set I am liking are these Wedsport SA-55M. in gold they look very similar to the Advan RS. only the Advans are not split spokes.

I was going to paint these black with gold like the sa-55 catalog, but I think I'll leave them as is. Loving the look. I'll stick them on the chassis this afternoon.

Luckily RC wheels are cheap. I have about 30 sets, all of which give a completely different look. the deep dish of these SWP Sparco style rims is cool, but a bit '90s looking for the MArk X

on paper, these should look good. chrome and red to match the accents on the body, but somehow these yokomo copy prodrives, don't work. Lost in the similarity in red.

They work better on the blue side, I may have to do 2 blue centres and 2 red.
