RE-DP Tsunami Spec "R" - Active Link
ho ho ho. Xmas time!
When the postman comes with a tiny little bag you don't expect much.
but there is a whole bunch of parts in this little gem. Active Hobby Rear Link Suspension Kit for Drift Package in Silver. A think the "Tsunami Blue" may change to Typhoon Silver.
This is a setup I've wanted for ages, but it's been sold out. I found 1 set, so here it is.
free. lots of camber
compressed... full contact patch. could mean some body adjustments though.
with compression and roll. all stable. I think this could take a while to sort out. Aaaaaaagh why do we add complexity to our lives?
RE-DP Tsunami Spec "R" - Ackerman
Ok then, this is a test of type B suspension with massive angle for Rear wheel drift.
I cleaned up a few more plastic items, then fabricated a new bar to replace the stock steering link. I extended the steering arms and tried a bunch of different positions on the kazama knuckles.
I have yokomo 10 degree castor blocks in this test. I had some old drift package arms so, I tried them in the reverse direction with KPI also, so I may continue that next time. but it requires drilling another hole in the suspension arms for the castor pins.
I had these team suzuki low damper position extenders I wasn't using so they ended up extending the team suzuki arms.Wheels are +12 so there's pleanty of clearance and they still fit inside the S14 Silva
I haven't measured the angle, but it's pretty impressive. about 80 degrees on the lead wheel and about 70 degrees on the trailing. The main problem with this setup is scrub radius. But I think I can fix it with these kazama knuckles. just need some trial and error and patience.
steering component angle, clearance and movement are all linked. so it takes a while to set up.
I'm looking forward to the type Wrap Up and Type C mods, But i think I'll progress with this for a while and at least test it.
RE-DP Tsunami Spec "R" - Elimination
I'm in the process of deleting parts for the Rear drive.
Basically, all this is eliminated.
The gearbox no longer needs to hold gears, so it becomes a support for the shock tower only. I had an old item that I remodeled into a more aesthetically pleasing shape.
I temporarily installed my kazama knuckles to play with ackerman... but I will be using a customised type C suspension, so this is just for "display" until my other parts arrive.

RE-DP Tsunami Spec "R" - Project Start
What is the Spec "R"? Maybe DPR?
That's rear wheel drive only, so there's a lot to convert.
First... throw away the shaft!
At the moment I have this cheap drift package as a stating point.
It has FCD1.5x gearset and one way, that will become spares for my other Drift Package. The 10 deg Yokomo castor blocks and DPM knuckles will also become spare.
Type C front suspension will be installed with my Kazama knuckles
I'll be using Wrap up next lower Y arms,
TN Racing lower arm extensions,
and
TN racing Upper arm pin holders
Team suzuki type 2 steering arms are about all that will remain from here.
The Type B rear will remain although an Active Link rear suspension is underway,
The stock fixed spur gear is ready to be replaced.
SS shocks and decent turnbuckles. Leftover SSG parts have been swapped as the rear suspension tower.
Electrics might be a while longer.
Motor, Keyence Luxon 13.5T
ESC, Keyence Airia + Turbo
Servo, Sanwa SRG-BL series
etc
don't expect this to be finished quickly. It's definitely going to be a work in progress for a long time.
DIB 275 Chassis BLING!
This is Bling with a purpose!
these parts hardly weigh a thing.
Weight and rigidity are gained with these.
These were used items. but still look as good as.
Team Suzuki lower alloy arms and Kazama rear knuckle.
Along with Yokomo DIB Upgrade 1&2. Now the Model Garage screws are poppin'
I still have the deck raised 3mm.
I mounted the ball end right inside the wheel. this gives a little better camber response.
Front is still set up with the CS. 2.3 gears and the red tensioner.
Droop is a little bit of an issue as the knuckles touch on full lock, so it is set within tollerance.
underneath looks stock, but weighs a lot more.
I don't like too much weight in front of the front bumper however, so I usually run like this with the stock item. Magnets.. unavoidable I guess.
This has now transformed into a heavy weight. it feels a lot like my Drift package. so should have a bit more length to it's slide.
I think the only thing I would do is swap this Dokyo Speed Passion for a Keyence Luxon KG with a red can.
The 10.5T is a decent setup.
pretty enough.
JZX100 - Ghost in the Shell
Cue horror music, This JZX will kill!
This is what happens when you follow the directions on the can for a paint that supposedly is designed for RC polycarbonate application.
If, you never stuck anything inside to re-inforce the body... maybe, just maybe it might be oK. my previuos attempt was much better. Tamiya red sticks perfectly.
But somehow, this one just didn't work.
I guess... silver application will be in order.
Saturday Session
Well, I can't resist the magnet of slide. Gotta use my stuff.
I took 3 chassis for a bit of fun. This Drift Package has mounted my D1 Stlye "Asamoto FC"
I enjoyed some cool power battles. My drift package is an awesome state right now. CS 2.0 but capable of fast and slow drift, quick transitions, long slides and I'd say it has the best feel of my three cars right now.
I also took the JZX on my DIB275 which is now at CS 2.3 and will over-steer from 0.1% throttle. But it has a bit too much traction and doesn't like to hold extended slides. So I picked up some old spares from a friend to increase the weight in the chassis. Stay tuned for this.
Lot's of tandem play all night. DPM in Use
Had some good runs with this little beasty... handbrake?
bad photography was the call.
Background you can see some tuning happening.
must apologise to all the guys though. My magnets weren't strong enough on the JZX and the body was popping off at every small collision. But I think I managed some good tandem with this.
Against the AE86, this looks perfect.
Against some Supras... looks like the supra should be bigger.
While the chrome looks fantastic... there is also a tragedy to the body.... A ghost JZX is born... stay tuned.
