DRB-REW Typhoon

Time to bring out the big guns.

This machine is my battle beast. It's always been a bit more competition focused from it's CS days.

My RE-86 bears the scars of 3 years battles and has collected it's fair share of memories. Let's collect some more.

GCRC - 2 is day #Part2 In search of "THE LAP"

Q: How much practice does it take?

A: Lots!

First steps to drift perfection include a lot of laps and getting a good setting.

I've been using this particular DRB-REW chassis a lot recently. It has great balance and good stability. I can place it anywhere I want on the track.

Combined with this Tamiya + Demi Works RB kit, and an additional spoiler, there's a great balance with this combo.

Whether it's mixing it up in a train, mucking around pushing ahead or finding gaps that don't exist. It's all fun.

But it's the battle that tests your ultimate closeness and aggressive positioning.

DRIFLINE vs .RSG. I think we have done a few thousand laps together.

Those kind of numbers allow you to know how each other drives and where the driving partner can position their car. .

For me, If I get the front wheel of my FD3s RX7 any more forward, it's not a good position.

But getting in such a position is not easy. it all starts maybe 2 corners before.

You have to be close at the beginning. Getting your change of direction brushing across the rear of the lead car takes timing and trust.

These laps were almost the last of the evening. There were many before that were not as close, adjusting to line and trying too hard

But when you finally get your concentration going you can really get that synchronicity.

Anywhere on the track.

The last and closest lap of the night started in this position.

Followed all around the track very closely,

Heading onto the straight, I was leaning on the S15.

Then there was that perfect transition and large angle, high speed entry right on the wall.

...without touching or spinning in ultimate proximity.

Was it the perfect lap...?  I don't know.

But when you get some superb laps like this, you get those feelings that all the practice is worth it.

RB V2 Update# Aero Cool

The Rocket Bunny V2 kit is a strange beast. There are so many components it's hard to know where to stop.

During my build... The body sits beside my PC. Where I can gather internet imagery and compare and inspire ideas. The rear wing has been troubling... so I decided to use magnets to temporarily attach or remove as I feel so.

As it stands the exterior is complete. I added a small deflector to the rear window and clicked the rear wing into place.

Mufflers are installed. I am still deciding whether to attach a small diffuser extension... the shape of which is a bit angular. Some minor modifications should suit.

Compared to my V1 the overall effect is very different.

The highly angular V1 is a stark contrast.

The Extended Nose of the V2 totally changes the look .

Laid back inter-cooler and an oil cooler in V format. will be complemented by some custom air ducting surrounding the inter-cooler.

Still a ways to go.

V2 Rocket Project ??Start??

Why is a new project almost complete...?... There is a story to this one.

If you have been watching my site for a while, you will know my V1 Rocket has a hard hard hard life. months and  months or more of intense battles have seen it rebuilt a few times as the body panels continue to disintegrate.

So after deciding to get into a V2... SOLD OUT everywhere. and Addiction only does one production run.

On the same day I got the news from my Japanese supplier that there were none to be had, I saw this one come up for sale. A partially finished project was a good choice.

Very pleased upon it's arrival. Of course I've been through a bunch of rims to test looks. Ive kind of settled on running my Blue Top line +12 on this machine, which are not far from the SSRs that were supplied.

There's heaps of detail components like canard set and interior etc so it will be a WIP for a while.

Stance will be similar to this as my V1 is set up perfectly. But maybe 1mm or 2mm wider on the front.
Ahhhh.... Too many details to think about right now.

You can also see the start of a new garage "photo studio" project underway for GCRC also.

RE-Grand Prix Style

Many Projects... Time to step it up.

Any drift car that pushes the limits of control is bound to have a few "incidents"

With the street look of the black FD3s no longer looking it's reflective best, especially on the doors and rear corners, it was time to think about the next step.

With supply of some ORC Z33 decals from fellow Overdose DRb runner, I found a home for them.

I also decided to toughen up the FD3s a little with a huge vented bonnet from the Active Hobby Body shell I cut up for the Pan Speed FD.

The result is nearing completion. Ready for max attack.

The body includes...

Pandora RC Fd3s Base.
HPI Stage D RE-Amemiya N1-GT-AD Style Aero kit including light buckets.
Active hobby Wing and Hood scoop
Yokomo mirrors, wing stays, oil coolers, wipers
Yokomo S14 rear diffuser and custom supports

Yokomo front combination lamps and rear light buckets
GT Power light kit
Tamiya PS-5 Black Paint.
+ custom dash and more.

The Rocket Bunny pig now has a little too much poo on the rear. Drift scars and damage adds to the character. I added a few Tamiya stickers. You can't forget that Tamiya Polycarbonate paint is THE BEST.

The old craft square mirrors on this "RE"-86 have taken quite the beating. Having been replaced twice.  So this time, I've reverted back to the standard door mirrors.

Kyle approves

This body includes

Tamiya 86
Addiction RC Rocket Bunny Aero Fender, Side Step, front bumper Fender extensions and front splitter.
Yokomo 86 Orido rear wing
Yokomo 86 light buckets modified
Yokomo Muffler, Intercooler
Yokomo GDB WRX vents and roof spoiler
Custom Rocket bunny decals.

So this body is ready for even more attack. A new tow hook up front, fenders and splitter re-attached. May the destruction re-commence.

While many enjoy the street look. I love these Full Attack D1 machines.

Rippit Sunday S-Session

Silviarmageddon continues... issan-ichiyon-ichigo

All three cars are massive wide bodied beasts.

All with touches of Speed Way Pal, Uras, Admiration and more.

My session started like this.

With the matt black DRS-10 with  +9 not even close to filling the guards on the s14. I useually run +12 on this machine.

You may notice some dust.

This surface is terrible. Epoxy dust has us choking.

13 14 rears both run the uras drag wing. only the red beast has some custom work.

including the undesirable kind. The red beast has some 300 hours of track time. thats a lot of crashes. Still looks pretty good.

A fun afternoon.
